Business Goals For 2020

February 18, 2020

So… I know what you’re thinking. Taylor – it’s almost the end of February. How are you about to come on here and talk about your goals for “the new year”?

Well, truth be told I had no idea what goals I wanted to set for myself. I put an insane amount of pressure on myself to get this business off the ground and running on top of my 9-5 job in 2019. So, when 2020 came around I just kind of sat there thinking, “okay… what now?”

I shared these struggles with one of my Internet friends Nia from Socialee Media. She also works a 9-5 while building her business and understands the time restrictions I’m under. Nia helped me realize how in my head I was about this whole goal setting thing. I needed to be reminded that I do not have to accomplish everything all at once. This is a journey, not a race.

I left our conversation feeling so refreshed, inspired, and ready to sit down and set my goals. Continue reading below to find out what my 2020 goals are!

Grow My Client Base (& Team!)

It goes without saying that the best way to grow a freelance business is to grow the clientele. More clients means more income, which means more money to pay team members, expand service offerings, and someday take this full-time. Which is the goal!

However..

Throughout my first year freelancing I was very fortunate to have almost all of my leads come through referrals or my own social media channels. I learned A LOT the the types of businesses and client projects that I like to work on, and towards the end of 2019 I really found my groove within the beauty and wellness niche. Now that I have clearly defined that as my niche, I am ready to do some outreach and pitch to those ideal clients I want to work with.

And with that, I’d love to grow my team! Right now I am a one man show while still working my 9-5, and I won’t lie to you guys… it’s a lot. It’s hard to find time for all the projects I have going on. I’d love to hire an operations manager to help me with more back end/administrative tasks, and possibly a few interns to help keep up with client management. Delegating is going to be a very important thing for me to do this year if I want to keep up with this on top of my 9-5.

Expand Socially Taylored Service Offerings

As I continue to make moves to grow my team, I plan to expand Socially Taylored service offerings. As a marketer, I can only control so much of a client’s success if I am only handling their social media. This can be really frustrating as a third party, especially if I’m driving a ton of traffic through social media for it to go nowhere after it’s out of my hands. The areas that I’d love to expand into are:

Okay… so it’s probably not realistic for me to be able to expand into all of these areas in 2020. But I’ve had so many requests for these kinds of additional services, so I know that my clients will benefit from having a go-to agency that does it all!

And as a side note – I am pleased to report that the email marketing service expansion is already underway! I am in the process of migrating email marketing services from Mailchimp to Flodesk. I’ll be sure to keep you guys updated on how I like the change!

Grow My Email List

Email marketing was something I really put on the back burner in 2019. But not anymore because email marketing is SO important. If all social media platforms were to shut down tomorrow, how would you directly communicate with your audience?

As Socially Taylored continues into 2020, I’m aiming to get my email list to it’s first 1,000 subscribers. If you’re not already subscribed, be sure to do so by clicking here! There will be plenty of social media tips, freebies, and more coming your way!

Be More Active on Instagram

While I offer Instagram management for my clients, my own Instagram has been on the back burner mainly because I don’t have enough time to do it all. But, it’s time for me to start practicing what I preach to my own clients and get consistently active on Instagram!
