Best Styling Products for Fine Hair in 2019

June 16, 2019

Growing up I was blessed with a head of soft, thick curls. I never had to style or put any real effort into my hair. But as I got older and started to bleach my hair, I lost the curl because my hair was damaged and I didn’t use the right haircare products. When I cut my hair in February I unknowingly cut off the rest of the curl. What was left was super fine and straight hair, but I still had a lot of it and I had no idea how to style it. I spent my teens just letting my curls do whatever they wanted. Now I’m supposed to know how to style it? Rude.

I posted a haircare routine shortly after I cut my hair, but since then I’ve had to revamp it. Almost every product I used previously weighed my hair down or made it oily. Those of you that have fine hair know this daily struggle of trying to add volume or keeping your hair from getting too oily too quickly. Haha. After months of bad hair days, I’ve finally found what I think are the perfect styling products for all us fine haired gals!

1. Dry Bar Detox Dry Shampoo

I’ve tried countless dry shampoos (high and low end) and Dry Bar’s Detox is by far my favorite. I spray Detox in my hair before bed and let the residue and oil absorb overnight. That way I can do my hair in the morning with minimal styling. This product does such an amazing job at refreshing and volumizing hair. Most dry shampoos only help temporarily, and I usually keep a travel sized bottle of dry shampoo in my purse to refresh throughout the day. But Detox makes my hair feel and smell clean all day without making it sticky, matted, or stiff.

2. Dry Bar Triple Sec 3-in-1

This product is aammmmazing, and I’m not just talking about the smell. When I use Triple Sec it’s the only styling product I have to use because of how much texture, volume, and hold it provides. No dry shampoo, no hair spray, and no other volumizing and texturizing products – only Triple Sec required for a perfect hair day! In fact, this product gives so much texture and hold that if I use any other products with it (like hairspray) my hair will start to feel too dirty. So keep that in mind if you are a person who absolutely has to use hairspray when styling your hair.

3. Amika Un.Done Volume and Matte Texture Spray

This is the newest texturizing product in my arsenal. Amika is a fairly new brand to me, but I must say I am loving their products thus far! They have a really nice dry shampoo and blowout spray, but their Un.Done Volume and Matte Texture Spray is a shining star. It’s very similar to the Dry Bar Triple Sec because it acts as a volumizing + texturizing spray and dry shampoo in one, but it doesn’t have that gritty build-up feel that the Triple Sec has if you use other products with it.

4. Living Proof Full Dry Volume Blast

When I cut all of my hair off back in February, my color specialist Rylee (who just opened her own salon by the way – go show her some love @ryleeheyzahair) used this product to style my hair. It was love at first spray and I bought it that day. This product gives your hair SO much volume! It’s my favorite out of all of the dry spray recommendations.

5. Bumble and Bumble Don’t Blow It (Fine)

Normally I don’t reach for a styling cream, gel, or mousse. I feel like they always end up making my hair sticky, crunchy, or a combination of the two. However, this product is an exception. I’m not sure what type of magic is in this bottle, but when I work this into my hair after a shower I wake up with my most beautiful, effortless waves.

6. Bumble and Bumble Does It All Light Hold Hairspray

Of course, all us fine haired gals need a hair spray to help us hold our style. This hairspray is another product Rylee recommended to me. It’s the best hairspray I’ve ever used and the only one I’ve ever truly loved. I hate when my hair feels crunchy and hairspray is usually a one way ticket to crunchy hair. But this one has such a flexible hold and does not feel like you used hairspray at all!

I’m still on the hunt for a good volumizing shampoo and conditioner for fine hair. I really want to try the Briogeo Blossom & Bloom Ginseng + Biotin Volumizing line, but I’m also intrigued by the Amika 3D Volume and Thickening line too! Anyone have any thoughts or recommendations? Leave them in the comments below 🙂
